Measurement of Air Toxic Emitted from Building Materials and Related Indoor Air Chemistry Using Controlled Environmental Chamber / 應用艙室技術於建材排放特性及其室內空氣污染化學作用之研究

碩士 / 國立高雄第一科技大學 / 環境與安全衛生工程所 / 92 / One of major purpose of this study is to evaluate the characteristics of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from building materials using chamber technology. The emission factors of VOCs from carpet, plywood and pinewood were estimated under different environmental conditions including temperature, relative humidity and air exchange rate. The VOCs emission were diluted and captured in a stainless steel chamber (2.5 m3), and analyzed by GC/MS.
The change of the testing parameters can effect VOCs emission from building materials. In most case, the higher VOCs emission rates were obtained at higher temperature and relative humidity. The compound with highest emission rate from the plywood tested is formaldehyde, which is one of the major concerns of indoor air quality. The formaldehyde emitted from plywood was higher than that of the pinewood and carpet at same testing condition.
The indoor chemistry of monoterpenes has received much attention because of their significant high aerosol forming potential with ozone. Although recent studies on the reactions of α-pinene with ozone have shown that these reactions are the sources of significant quantities of secondary organic aerosol (SOA), the effects of water vapor and temperature of nucleation have not been fully investigated. In this study, an electric discharge ozone generator was added to the chamber for ozonolysis and an aerosol monitor (Dust Trak, TSI) was used for the monitoring of fine particles. Measurements of PM1 made during actions of α-pinene (310 ppb) with ozone (40 and 100ppb) showed an increase of the particle mass concentration with increasing water vapor. On the contrary, mass concentrations of secondary organic aerosol were decreased during higher temperature tests (35℃) with similar levels of ozone. The results from different ozone settings showed an increase of the particle mass concentration with increasing ozone level. Some other air pollutants such as formaldehyde, acetone were also found in α-pinene /ozone reactions.
