Strategic analysis on ROC Shipping Groups in Global Logistics operations / 國籍航運集團經營國際物流業務之策略探討

Supply chain management has become an important subject in the field of global logistics. The constant changes of the character of global industry and environment lead to the result that the life cycle of products becomes shorter than before. It requires professional knowledge while dealing with respective customs demands in order to provide a smooth cargo, information and cash flows. Such a phenomenon is more obvious in electronic industry because the prices of its products drop quickly, it would require an efficient system to carry out supply chain management. It therefore needs to explore how an efficient and effective supply chain operates.

This thesis explores the strategic measures which can be adopted by two main ROC shipping groups, namely Evergreen Line and Yangming Line. It discusses the nature of global logistics as well as those services provided by third party logistics providers. It also discusses the change of circumstances and industrial characteristics in order to comprehend the development of international logistics business among liner carriers. It aims to find out the actual situation of how managers operate their logistics business, and what the selected strategies, the operational predicament, core competence and development aspects in the future.

This thesis analyses two ROC shipping groups’ strategies of how to establish their independent logistics company. There are still some business patterns inherited from their parent company. In addition, since the time they enter the logistics market later than their competitors, the progress level of their IT systems are still not so splendid enough. It is admitted that know-how of their professional human resources are still not excellent enough, because their fewer business experiences. This thesis aims to provide useful analysis and suggestions for reference of those ROC shipping groups.
