Contents of cholesterol and fatty acid in different species of seahorse / 不同種海馬之膽固醇與脂肪酸含量分析

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 環境生物與漁業科學學系 / 92 / In the present study, various kinds of sea horses are collected from herbal medicine stores, aquariums, fishermen gatherings and fisheries. These sea horses are identified into 8 spices, most of which have never been seen in the references, whether in medical use or in the aquatic animal market, in Taiwan or/and in Mainland China. The result indicated that sea horses depend mainly on importing.
In the study, cholesterol is isolated from the sea horses and the amount of cholesterol is further investigated by HPLC on a reverse phase column at 30℃ using acetonitrile / isopropyl alcohol (75/25) as the mobile phase at flow rate 1.5 ml/min and with UV detection at 203nm. The analytical result showed that the average amount of cholesterol in the body tissues and that in viscera are 1.57 and 9.23 mg/g, respectively. That is, the amount of the cholesterol in the internal organs is 5.83 times the amount of the cholesterol in the body tissues. In addition, the productivity of the total cholesterol from the sea horse body tissue processed with alkaline solution is 35-109% higher than that from the body tissue without alkaline process.
From the GC-MS analysis, sea horse body tissues and viscera contain approximate 9 kinds of fatty acids. wherein the 3 most abundant fatty acids are hexadecanoic、octadecanoic and 9-Octadecenoic. Totally, the amount of saturated fatty acids is slightly higher than the amount of unsaturated fatty acids in sea horses.
