The purpose of this study is to focus on the learning process of taciturn childrenin the group discussion. Three taciturn children were being selected for this study, their performance in the group discussion, work discussion and work alone, supporting with teaching method by the researcher is observed closely. The observations were later used as reference for data analysis, to better understand the performance of those taciturn children in the study.
During the Nan-Hai Kindergarten project activities, the performances of these 3 children were being observed in 3 different circumstances, in the “group discussion” in the “work discussion” and “at work”. The research had shown in work discussion group with less people involved, taciturn children tend to interact more with peers and seem to be more actively involved in the project. In the smaller group of work discussion, which the purpose is to discuss the work content, we discover the objective of the group discussion, which is to “convey the ideas through languages” can still be achieved successfully. When the taciturn children were placed in a smaller group to discuss on how to achieve the work target, their performances were shown significantly much better than in the group discussion. Work discussions not only motivate them into participating in the project, but also provide a chance for them to convey their ideas through languages and so, be able to learn more.
On the other hand, through physically handle the work; a chance of facing the problems directly is created. In the course of solving the problems, it also reflects the process of how those taciturn children participate in the group.
