The Impacts of Environmental Recognition, Internal Resource and External GUANXI towards Entry Mode Selection and Performance: An Empirical Study of Taiwanese Firms in Mainland China / 『環境認知、內部資源、外部關係』對海外進入模式與經營績效之影響-台商赴中國大陸投資之實證研究

This study attempts to fill the gap in literature by providing an integrative framework through extensive literature review to identify the interrelationships between environment recognition, internal resources, and external Guanxi, and their possible influences towards entry modes selection and overall performance of the Taiwanese firms operating in Mainland China.
The research develops six key hypotheses based on eclectic theory and resource-based theory, and examine the hypotheses by empirical methods statistically.
The sample population is the firms based in Middle Taiwan. A random stratified sampling method was used. Some 500 questionnaires were distributed by mail. 130 valid questionnaires received represent a fair response rate of 26%.
The major findings of the research includes the followings:
1. Companies, with stronger capability in capital supply, marketing, and external connecting, are more likely to adopt higher-controlled entry mode.
2. Companies, with stronger capability in manufacturing, guanxi networking with governmental bodies, are more likely to adopt lower-controlled entry mode, so do those with higher recognition in environment complexity.
3. Stronger marketing capability tend to have negative affect on the financial performance.
4. Financial performance is positively related to technological resource, organizational capability in host company.
5. Subsidiaries under higher control tend to have positive effect on overall and operating performance.
6. Overall performance is associated with manufacture capability.
