碩士 / 中華大學 / 資訊管理學系 / 93 / Due to the increasing population of World Wide Web users, web-based systems are widely used to accomplish internal business processes as well as inter-organizational transactions through corporation intranet or extranet. Most corporation web sites try to enhance their usability by providing artistic web presentations. However, the design of web sites is not judged solely on the artistic basis. Two of the most important design criteria for web sites are the web content and the navigation architecture. How to evaluate the web navigation architecture has become an important factor for the design of web sites.
This research aims at proposing a platform for automatically evaluating the quality of web navigation architecture. Web designers as well as software quality assurance members will be the direct users of the system implemented based on the platform. Since the web navigation architecture usually includes links between functions and links within each individual function, the evaluation process is designed in both aspects. Because of the hierarchical characteristics of web navigation design factors, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is applied in the evaluation process.
This thesis describes both the application of the AHP method and a configurable framework of the evaluation platform. The navigation strategies and navigation criteria are defined as the decision factors. The various navigation architectures are naturally the alternatives of the web architecture design. A prototype system is implemented based on the framework. The system includes the evaluation for both cross-functional navigation and navigation within the individual functions. An explanation mechanism is also provided for the web designers to get more information on the evaluation results. Through this evaluation platform, the web designers can reach better navigation architecture design of high quality.
