碩士 / 佛光人文社會學院 / 教育資訊學研究所 / 94 / The purpose of this study is to find out the influences of two factors on learning the Boshiamy Chinese key-in system. The factors include the practice methods and the basic English ability of the participants. The practice methods include the Root method and Character-splitting method. Since the root of the Boshiamy Chinese key-in system is based on the figures, phonetic sounds or meaning corresponding to 26 English letters, the second purpose of this research is to see whether the particpant’s basic English ability may play a role in learning the Boshiamy Chinese key-in system.
It was a two factor quasi-experimental design. The material was the CAI software provided by the Boshiamy Chinese key-in system producer. A total of 97 students from four classes at a national commercial high school participated in this study. Using class as an unit, the four classes of students were randomly assigned to one of the practice methods. The study lasted 6 weeks (2 hours a week). The first week was an orientation to the roots and principles of the Boshiamy Chinese key-in system and a test of basic English ability. The following four weeks were for group practice and an immediate (written) test on the roots and character-splitting at the end of the session. The overall (written) test was given in the 6th week to see how well they had learned the roots and how well they could split characters.
A two-way ANOVA was used to analyze the data. The results indicated that:
1.Based on the practice method: For root learning performance, there was no significant differences between the performances of Root Method and Character-splitting Method after four weeks. For character-splitting learning performance, there was a significant difference between the Character-splitting Method group and the Root Method group. (The Character-splitting method group outperformed the Root method group in splitting characters into roots.)
2.Based on the basic English ability: Regardless of the practicing methods, those participants with higher level of basic English ability performed better than those with lower level of basic English ability. Thus, the study revealed that the level of basic English ability had significant effect on learning the Boshiamy Chinese key-in system.
