A Study in the Shipping Industry Providing Logistic Services / 海運業提供物流服務之分析研究

碩士 / 開南管理學院 / 航運與物流管理系碩士班 / 93 / After gone through a period of international economic recession, the global shipping industry begins to rebound from the trough of the business cycle. To launch another wave of expansion, many shipping companies not only holding to the shipping services but also enhancing their services to provide value added logistics services. Due the diversification of logistics services, the study focuses on investigating the current situation of shipping industry to provide logistics services and by what means the shipping industry to provide logistics services. Moreover, this study also analyzes the different requirements of logistics services between shipping companies and shippers.

By analyzing the data derived from a mail questionnaire, the study obtains the following major conclusions: (1) shipping enterprises think that they can significantly increase their revenue by providing logistics services; (2) the approach for shipping companies to provide logistics services are to establish a logistics services department within their own companies or to outsource logistics services to the third party logistics services providers; (3) the factor analysis finds out that shipping industry focusing on five dimensions, including “providing basic and value added logistics services”, “providing electronic services”, “signing contract with other services providers”, and “providing intermodal services”.
