碩士 / 開南管理學院 / 航運與物流管理系碩士班 / 93 / For most terminals in Asia which enjoyed high growth of container traffic, they have no choice but to increase the productivity of existing terminal facilities. The price to be paid is the high volume of unproductive container moves taken in the terminal operations. To obtain deep analysis, a field study is designed to collect first hand information. This study examines one terminal which increased its annual throughput from around 360,000 TEUs to over 600,000 TEUs, to find out what is the price to be paid from the operational perspective when terminal throughput has been increased almost double. The research findings reveal that the major difference is the increased number of unproductive moves taken in the loading operation. The differences are not significant in the other terminal operations.
