Sweetheart, Old and New: Shifted Identity of the Taiwanese Businessmen in Greater Shanghai / 新歡與舊愛:大上海台商認同移轉之研究

碩士 / 銘傳大學 / 社會科學院國家發展與兩岸關係碩士在職專班 / 93 / In the past two decades, China’s economic performance is phenomenal. With the rise of China, Shanghai is also emerging as the business center in the world. In Shanghai, businessmen are coming from all over the world and especially from Taiwan. These taishang (Taiwanese businessmen) are here to bring about another economic miracle. This is a study of taishang in the greater Shanghai area. According to my study, many taishang have gradually settled down in Shanghai, treating the city their own home. In dong so, they have brought up their family, re-schedule their career plans, and struggle very hard to adapt to the new environment. To faithfully record the life stories of these taishang, the author interviewed around thirty of them and collected about one-fifty questionnaires for analysis. By doing so, this study hopes to shed some light on the identity shift of the taishang in Shanghai in recent years.
