The Optimal Size of Container Fleet On Trans-Pacific / 最適貨櫃船船型之研究-以越太平洋航線為例

碩士 / 國立高雄第一科技大學 / 運輸倉儲營運所 / 93 / Along with the trend of the container ships’ size on the rise, this has the enormous impaction on the market of international marine container transportation. Although the container ships’ size on the rise could reduce the transported cost, the shipping liners expanding their own fleet scale and capacity of ship’s size have made the phenomenon of the supply over demand in the market in the latest years. The container ships’ size on the rise has become the trend of the market. This trend also clearly affects the operation of the shipping liners and container terminal operators.
From the perspective of shipping liners and use coordinates analysis of the harbor terminal facility correlation to discuss the optimal size of a container fleet. In shipping liners, analysis of each container ship’s cost and definition of the parameter and variables, then build the relative regression of the ship's size and speed items. After the above, separately discussing the relative ship's size and speed to each cost of elasticity then build the function of maximizing profit and analyze the parameter sensitivity and to consider coordinates analysis of the harbor terminal facility correlation then get the optimal size of a container fleet.
Considering maximizing profitability, ship liners should take 7,000-9,000TEU, the harbor terminal facility can services and holds size of a container fleet is 4,000-8,000TEU. So the win-win situation for both is to set the size to 7,000-8,000TEU. According this conclusion, Kaohsiung port could be permissibly entered by the container fleet of 8,000TEU. In the future, the more enormous size container ships will be developed, the Kaohsiung port has the plan for being expanded the capacity of a port by fill, that will has the realizable situation to discuss and consider.
About Amsterdam, it can supply more than 10,000TEU ships to anchor, but it doesn’t operation this size ship yet. The conclusion of this study may supply the opinion and suggestion to the countries that they want to rebuilding their port. In the future, the hub-and-spoke networks developing, the planning and direction of construction of a port is to supply the loaded-and-unloaded equipment being operated by the biggest feeder ship, at least.
