Study on the artificial rearing technique of tubificid(Tubifex hattai) / 水生絲蚯蚓人工繁養殖技術之研究

碩士 / 國立屏東科技大學 / 水產養殖系 / 93 / The tubificids have been considered as an important live food in aquaculture industry. At present, they are harvested from the polluted ditch. It is suspected that they are also carriers of fish diseases causing the aquatic animal to fall ill. Therefore, this study develops a new cultivation technique using plastics basin with prepared medium inside to cultivate the tubificids successfully from cocoon to adult under no aeration or flowing water.
At first, the seed worms were taken from the polluted ditch and cultivated in a rectangular plastic basin with the prepared cultural medium. After a certain period, the seed worms begin to spawn. A cluster of rectangular paper scrap of 2 cm wide was put on the top of cultural medium. The fertilized eggs were spawned inside a cocoon that adhesive under the paper scraps. Each cocoon contains 3 to 36 of eggs averaging in 15 eggs. After a week, the collected cocoons were put into anther basin for further treatment. The fertilized eggs were hatched after 25 to 32 days at 25℃of humid environment. The newly hatched larvae should be further nursed for a week, and then fed with the prepared medium gradually. One month later the larval worms could be separated into additional basins for further cultivation till adult. During the cultivation process, it is necessary to throw breadcrumbs and pour into appropriate amount of water to compensate the loss from evaporation once every week. There is no need of aeration or flowing water.
There are two methods for harvesting the worms from the cultural basin. The full water method is to fill the basin with water and collected the worms on the top of the medium, while the dry water method is to drain basin water till it dried and collected the worms gathered under the medium by lifting it up. The newly developed cultivation method, do not need aeration or flowing water, with low costs, effective and easy to manage.
