A Study on Social and Economic Changes of Tidal Flats in Taijowan Bay-A Case Study of An-Nan District in Tainan City / 臺江內海浮覆地社會經濟變遷之研究—以臺南市安南區為例

碩士 / 國立臺南大學 / 鄉土文化研究所碩 / 博士班 / 93 / The thesis aims at the research of Historical geography about a lagoon-Taijowan Bay in south-west coastal areas. Taijowan Bay was once the largest lagoon. In July,1823, Tseng-wen River changed its route with much mud due to the heavy rain, which made the lagoon vanished suddenly and only the narrow waters in the south left. The new land immediately attracted people from the south-west coastal areas to reclaim and built a new society. Though there are many research papers about the Tidal Flats in Taijowan Bay, they tend to regard it as a homogeneous region and neglect the areal differentiation of the land cultivation, Settlement development, Sustaining styles and spatial organization as time went by. Therefore, the paper takes An-Nan District as an example to explain the change of the settlement, economy and spatial organization of the Tidal flats in Taijwan Bay.
From the research, although An-Nan District belongs to the Tidal Flats in Taijwan Bay, the time for weld to land in the east and west is different. The environment is bad so the development of settlement and economy was under the effect of natural environment in early time. In recent time, the development is related to the urbanization, industrialization and the reformation of transportation. The spatial organization reflects the change of settlement and industry. The spatial organization links from the homeland in the north to the city in the south. In other words, the areal differentiation originally appeared in the east and west but later in the north and south. The homogeneous region in fact contains much areal differentiation, let alone the large tidal flats in Taijowan Bay.
