碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 航運管理學系 / 93 / Taiwan is an island and the development of its economy relies on foreign trade. Most of its foreign trade is through marine transportation. The shipping industry demonstrated a boom in latter half of 2002, and many experts believed that the growth is highly correlated with the expansion of China economic. Therefore, the performance evaluation in this industry becomes more important to the management. This research includes three listed liner shipping company in Taiwan as analysis samples. By combining BSC and DEA and selecting measurement indicators from each dimension of BSC, we discuss the relative efficiency among three businesses. The DEA models basing on the data of 1997-2003 provide CCR efficiency, BCC efficiency, and A&P efficiency. Besides the comparison of efficiencies, we also perform the slack analysis, windows analysis, and sensitivity analysis.
The results of this research are as follow: 1. Efficiency analysis revealed that A corp. was ranked first, and then C corp. and B corp. in order. 2. All inefficiency DMUs may adjust their slack variable to improve efficiency. 3. Windows analysis shows that the efficiency of A corp. is relatively stable to the others. 4. Through sensitivity analysis, we found A corp. has advantage in “total assets turnover” and “stevedoring expenses”, B corp. has advantage in “fixed assets” and “human cost”, and C corp. has advantage in “human cost”.
Although three companies are very competitive worldwide, they have to continue grow to cope with the fast shifting environment. We sure performance evaluation systems could provide feedback to direct the operation of businesses.
