The Ego and Identification under Luxury Tide / 奢華狂潮下的自我與認同

碩士 / 國立台北師範學院 / 藝術與藝術教育研究所 / 93 / The purpose of the art work is to inquire a creative work motive and its originality by creation, trying to comprehend the ideology and process of art creation, helping creator to further exam his ego, and attempting to find out the self desire and aloofness caused by self ideology in the consumerism era.

In the present age, we promptly define a person’s value by the external accessories. Identification is focused on the surface of the subject. Consumption is the path to construct the surface, and the subject is formed by the consumption differentiation and identification, while the surface determines the view of inner value, causing the pressure within the subject heavier. Under the tide of luxury, the subject is identified by consumption and vice versa.

Facing the material society culture, I choose to reflect the social value by the art creation, with superficial and flattered work to show the consumption beneath the subconscious. I use dot prints to metaphor the accessories, to show the absence and partial of me. Furthermore, I try to self-exam the post-modern desire and identification by splendid art works. The works represent the reflection of subconscious and partial ego, and of the subject influenced by social culture. I want to introspect the nature beneath the heart from superficial phenomenon, and try to pursue the inner paradise and the innocence before consumption.

The work is divided by 6 chapters. The motive of Chapter 1 work is to elaborate how ego is lost in the social value. The purpose of creation is to look for the ego beneath and furthermore, to cure myself to connect with the work initially. Chapter 2 is to illustrate the rigid valuation of beauty. The appearance determines who you are and what you are. The valuation of existence is relied on the consumption of the texture and logo. I use art creation to show the inertia of subconscious, which means superficial and fancy of beauty. Chapter 3 is to show the commercialization of fast and easy art formed by the consumption culture, the dilemma of the artist when facing consumerism, and to correspond to the serious art consumption phenomenon. As a merchandise, art itself has indeed criticized the conflict of consumption, reminding of the people to review the consumption power. Chapter 4 is to discuss the subconscious and characteristic by automatic technique. Chapter 5 is to review 2005 works as a whole. Chapter 6 is the end of the work, reviewing the value and ego in the era, to realize the perceptual subconscious world. The work represents the submit and rebel toward consumption culture, manifesting the enchantment and query of luxury tide.
