The effects of foreign direct investment on China-the Total Factor Productivity Approach / 海外直接投資對中國大陸各地區總要素生產力變動之影響

碩士 / 東吳大學 / 經濟學系 / 93 / This study is different from general production function- we not only view the Labor & Capital as the factor of input, but also view foreign direct investment (FDI) as it. Then we use stochastic frontier production approach to analyze the condition of total factor productivity (TFP) growth on three (east、inland center and west regions) in China between 1997 to 2003. Besides, the sources of TFP growth have been decomposed into three components, they are technical progress (TP), changes in technical efficiency (TE), scale effects (SE).

Our results present as follows:
(1) On aspect of Technical efficiency, there is no technical efficiency in any provincial. After dividing three regions, the average of technical efficiency growth on east region is larger than inland center region, and still larger than west region.
(2) On aspect of technical progress, we found the largest growth provincials on technical progress are in east region. And the change rate of technology progress per year shows increasing growth with the passage of time. Besides, the TP growth in east region is larger than inland center and west region.
(3) On aspect of scale efficiency, we found that SE in west region is larger than inland center and east region.
(4) To integrate the above three components, we found the average TFP growth in east region is larger than inland center and west region.
