The Small-to-medium International Business Corporation Strategy between China and Taiwan - The Case Study of A Company vs. B Company / 海峽兩岸中小型貿易商合作經營策略之研究-大陸A公司vs.台灣B公司

碩士 / 中國科技大學 / 商業自動化與管理研究所 / 94 / This study entitled “A (Case) Study on Cooperative Management Strategy across the Taiwan Strait: A Company in Mainland vs. B Company in Taiwan,” is aimed at small to medium traders on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and exploring strategic considerations of bilateral cooperative management and partners selection, in order to understand the motives for cooperation between the two parties and differences in factors considered for partner selection.

In view of limited number of studies, both domestically and internationally, that aimed at cooperative management strategies of cross-strait small and medium traders, and the factor of political standoff and the problems of geographic distance etc, also tend to impose numerous limitations on the choice of methodology of this study. However, the researchers managed to garner information on corporate “cooperation” and “partner selection” from the literature, and designed 11 scenarios to explore in depth the characteristics of such events using case study interviews of the small and medium traders cross the strait and to establish detailed and truthful research results.

The conclusions of our study note that among the 6 facets of motivations for cooperation between the small and medium traders of the two sides, improvement of scale of economy and mutual learning represent the highest recognition, but for lowering of risk, lowering of cost, division of labor for market niches and elevation of competitiveness in global marketplace, there are substantial differences in cognizance of the 2 sides, with differing expectation as well. Secondly, on the part of partner selection, regarding the 5 facets of consensus of goals, level of trust, complementary resources, cultural differences and scale differences, both sides exhibited different viewpoints, indicating that for the cross-strait traders, on factors considered for partner selection there are differences in the expectation to the conditions of partners. Thus, there are certain degrees of difference in the cognizance of the 2 sides.

In conclusions of the study suggest that in the future; small and medium traders cross the Taiwan Strait in their decision analysis of management strategies should strive to build consensus and particularly seeking resolution to differences among the mutual cognizance. This shall facilitate smooth cooperation for both sides and may lead to sustainable management, persistent profitability and a win-win situation.
