This study was aimed at investigating perceived leisure freedom and leisure constraints of the fifth and sixth graders in coastal Changhua Townships.
The study was conducted through a 3-stage sampling. A total of 473 questionnaires were distributed that resulted in 466 valid questionnaires.
The findings of the study were :
(1) Boys perceived higher competence than girls.
(2) Mid SES pupils perceived higher competence than low and high SES ones.
(3) Parental support was positively related to students’ perceived leisure freedom.
(4) Teachers’ support was positively related to competence, sense of control and level of involvement of students’ perceived leisure freedom.
(5) Significant differences in decision-making, opportunities, and capabilities of students’ leisure constraints were found higher on girls than boys.
(6) Significant differences in time factor of leisure constraints were found higher on students with high SES than with low ones.
(7) Parental support was negatively correlated with students’ leisure constraints.
(8) Teachers’ support was negatively correlated with social and motivation factors of students’ leisure constraints.
(9) Students’ perceived leisure freedom was negatively correlated with leisure constraints.
According to above conclusions, suggestions and recommendations were offered to administration organizations and future researchers.
