碩士 / 高雄醫學大學 / 醫學放射技術學研究所碩士班 / 94 / Quantification of choline- and creatine-containing compounds in muscle using 1H MR Spectroscopy techniques is of great interest because these compounds have been used in evaluations of muscle related diseases and in monitoring the response of treatment. In this study, a practical external phantom replacement method for the absolute quantification of muscle metabolites is established. Experiments were performed at 3 T using a knee coil and for calibration, an external standard phantom containing pure water was utilized. This quantification strategy was first tested to confirm the system stability and reproducibility using a phantom composed of pure water. To demonstrate its usefulness, this technique was applied to calf muscle studies conducted on 23 normal volunteers. After corrections for coil loading and T1 and T2 effects, the concentration determined from the measurement was 35.7 ± 5.2 mM for creatine and 9.2 ± 1.9mM for the choline-containing compound. These values are consistent with the known concentration and with those published previously. The outcomes of this experiment suggest that the developed method is accurate and requires few tedious procedures for MRS examination. Thus, this technique is of great promise for the evaluation of the muscle diseases and for treatment response in routine clinical examinations.
