碩士 / 銘傳大學 / 觀光研究所碩士在職專班 / 94 / Taiwan is surrounding by sea; its coastal line is about 1,566 km. Both coast and the sea are beautiful and have great resources for ocean tourism. Recently, marine recreation activities are gradually increasing and become one of the popular trends for tourism. Scuba diving seemed as a dangerous activity at early ages. However, it has become a popular marine activity during the past few years. Moreover, the transportation to the diving base is easy accessible; as a result, diving activity become a great opportunity for ocean tourism.
In this study, the setting attributes were divided into four dimensions: physical setting attribute, social setting attribute, managerial setting attribute, and activity facilities setting attribute. To understand the relationships between satisfactions of setting attributes (physical setting attributes, social setting attributes, managerial setting attributes, and activity facilities setting attributes) and place attachment (place dependence and place identity) in scuba diving activities, one structural equation model was developed in this study. Using Important- performance
analysis, the importance and satisfaction of the setting attributes from five diving sites in Taiwan were examined.
In this study, the sample sites were North coast, North East coast, Kenting, Penghu, and Green Island in Taiwan. There were 1320 surveys distributed. The valid surveys were 979 and the response rate was 74.17 %. This study found that the satisfaction of the physical setting attribute was positively related to place dependence. The satisfaction of managerial setting attribute was positively related to place identity. More over, place dependence was positively related to place identify.
In Taiwan, the importance of the setting attributes were: regional scuba instructors knowledge of the aquatic environment, the safety of the personal belonging leaving behind on the sea shore, and the visibility of under the sea water. The satisfaction of the setting attributes included the regional scuba instructor’s knowledge of the aquatic environment, the service attitude of the scuba diving facilities, and the quality of the equipment provided from the diving facilities. In addition, I.P.A. reveals that managerial setting attribute was the most important and owned highest satisfaction level in Taiwan. Then, physical setting attribute and activity facilities setting attributes needed to be improved in order to create better attractive place for all scuba divers in Asia.
