The Study of the Style of Wang Boat in Tung-Kang / 屏東東港東隆宮王船造形藝術研究

碩士 / 國立成功大學 / 藝術研究所 / 94 / Tung-Long Temple, the well-known Wang-Yeh Temple in Taiwan, is famed for the Worship Ceremony of Wang Boat. The Wang Boat is a kind of folk art which is made of wood. It also combines shipbuilding skills and the art of painting. Thus, the enormous Wang Boat is specifically famous in its colorful paintings, shipbuilding techniques, patterns and subject matters. We can also call it the traditional Taiwanese art.
  Being a seaside community, Tung-Kang is noted for its shipbuilding industry. For this reason, the value of the Wang Boat shows its unique and irreplaceable qualities. It made the Wang Boat become unique and unequaled with the special hull form and equipment. Furthermore the unequaled surface of the numerous carvings and paintings of traditional Chinese style which can protect the hull from damages. More important is to increase the visual elegance of Wang Boat.
  The Wang Boat is a kind of traditional art which was developed by the religion. It pays special attention to the integration of the arts and culture with religion for a long time. Besides, the Wang Boat represents the higher spiritual level of object value which was served by Taiwan tradition. The Wang Boat is an art of life. Its artistic value and the essence of aesthetics are connected with each other. Therefore, the artistry of the Wang Boat lies in its shipbuilding techniques and colored drawing
