碩士 / 國立嘉義大學 / 水產生物學系研究所 / 94 / Cadmium (Cd) was one of important toxic heavy metals in Taiwan. There were many studies focus on the effect of Cd in aquatic animals. However, it was absent an integrant study to approach the effect of Cd on physiological functions interaction. The purpose of this study was to compare the responses of physiological mechanism following Cd exposure in adult tilapia. The results were included (1) the density of mucus cells were significantly increased 5 h after 0.5 mg / L Cd exposure. (2) The Cd accumulation were appeared time dependent after Cd exposure in every tissues, except in gills tissue. (3) The cortisol levels were greater at 5 h and prolog to 5 d after 0.5 mg / L Cd exposure, but it re-decreased as control after 15 d of Cd exposure. (4) Serum lysozoyme was appeared greater following Cd exposure time, but the activity of alternative complement pathway was showed lower following the Cd exposure time. (5) The content of super-oxide dismutase was significantly increase in tilapia treatment with Cd after 15 d. (6) The metallothionein expression were high significantly during 5h-5d after Cd exposure, but it appeared saturation during 5-15 d. Summary, we suggested that the temporal responses of physiological function were first expressed in gills that secreted mucus cells and diverted Cd to other organs (like as liver and kidney). Secondary, cortisol secreted from interrenal cells and decreased the activity of alternative complement pathway. Finally, The SOD and MT were increased for heavy metal detoxification.
