To keep up with the innovation of computer technology, it’s inevitable to combine traditional visual arts and digital technologies. Today, three dimensional animations that we can see everywhere have been mixed into our daily life.
Chinese culture is profound arts. Many original ideas and values of arts are leading in the world and even cannot be found in the western art society. If you learn from them and apply ideas from them effectively and combine the essences of traditional culture, you could create your own way. I have deeply appreciated that traditional comic drawing books must be declined and replaced by 3D animation. As long as you combine these traditions and modern technologies, you still can have your world in the dominion of arts.
This original research is based on “Shan Hi Jin”-a book of traditional Chinese fairy tales, and taken over the creativeness of it, using 3D animation as a tool and researching the process of this production by creating an animation. At the same time, I recorded and generalized the function of software Maya through this process in order to offer 3D animation creators as an example of this research, and to perpetually increase the level of production.
In character design, this research uses the character and scenes of “Pangu, Nuwo, Xingtian, Xuangui, Jiuweihu, etc. Besides, it adds the characters and scenes from modern school, adopting the interlacing of ancient and modern time and spaces. Through the process of the animation production, this research generalized the procedure of design, storyboards, modeling, pexpure, rigging, animation, shading, rendering, etc. In addition, it also records every step and I accomplish this work by myself. This research used software of Maya, Photoshop, Digitalfusion, Particle Illusion, Ulead Video Editor, Premiere, and some additional programs of Maya. Clear records of special functions of applied software are kept for other users’ reference .
This research concludes with the followings:
1.The chosen story could be from classical work and has strongly climax. The content should be exaggerated and humorous. Furthermore, the ending must be thoughtful.
2.Be familiar with the function from different kinds of software while using them. Avoid downloading unknown software.
3.When producing animation, take good advantage of Disney’s 12 rules of animation production.
In the end, I suggest that the following researchers should consider those below while doing related research:
1.Study software of Maya further, so that you can create good art work.
2.Find out self-orientation and develop what you are good at, so that you’ll gain a firm foothold in the animation.
3.Popularize general mood, co-create, and then have perpetual development.
