Effect of thermal gradient on productivity and growth rate of benthic algae in Fushing Hot Spring / 復興溫泉水溫梯度對著生性澡類生長量與生長速率之作用

碩士 / 國立高雄師範大學 / 生物科技系 / 94 / The productivity and growth rate of benthic algae in Fu-Shan Hot Spring was investigated from 2003 to 2004. Based on water temperature gradient on 28, 40, 50, 55, and 60 OC, five sampling site were selected. Four sets of tiles were place on each site, and sampled on one week interval for chlorophyll a and pheophytin. Environmental measurements were also conducted. The result indicated that algal productivity was not exceed the first two weeks after eight weeks observations. A new experiment was initiated in February, 2004. Seven sampling sites with water temperatures of 28, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, and 60 OC were chosen, and four sets of tiles were placed on each sampling site. Chlorophyll a, pheophytin, and cell samples were collected on an interval of 12 to 24 hours. The results revealed that algal productivity were greater in high temperature range (50, 55, and 60 OC) than in median (40 and 45 OC) and lower range. The algal productivity respectively reached the highest amount within 48 hours in high temperature sites and in 5-7 days in median temperature sites, both were faster than the result observed in the preliminary study. However, the algal productivity in low temperature sites did not appear their highest value until 42 days. The highest growth rate in log period was appeared in the 60 0C sampling site. Those sampling sites with water temperature higher than 40 0C displayed greater value in their highest growth rate than those one with water temperature lower than 35 0C. All sampling sites in hot spring present a higher growth rate than the stream site. The variations of environmental measurements among temperatures were exist, however, few correlation were significant with chlorophyll a were observed.
