碩士 / 國立屏東科技大學 / 水產養殖系 / 94 / Immunological and physiological factors in the hemolymph of tiger shrimps (Penaeus monodon; 15 ± 1.5 g) were analyzed in 0, 2, 4, 8 and 16 hrs after injections of 0, 0.775, 3.875 and 7.75 μmole norepinephrine per shrimp. Those parameters including total haemocyte count (THC), phenoloxidase activity (PO), respiratory burst (release of superoxide anion), superoxide dismutase activity, phagocytic activity and clearance efficiency to the pathogen Photobacterium damsela, glucose, lactate, pH, pO2, pCO2, HCO3-, TCO2, Na+, K+, Cl-, total protein, and oxyhemocyanin in the hemolymph and its osmolality were analyzed. The results showed a transient period of immunosuppression occurred between 2 and 4 h after injection of norepinephrine, which lowered phenoloxidase activity, respiratory burst, superoxide dismutase activity, phagocytic activity and clearance efficiency to the pathogen P. damsela. All immune parameters were recovered to control levels subsequently after 4 h. The norepinephrine injection significantly increased the mortality of P. monodon followed by subsequent P. damsela challenges. Results also showed that elevations of hemolymph glucose and lactate occurred at 2 h, increases in hemolymph osmolality, Cl-, pO2, pCO2, HCO3-, TCO2 within 2-4h, and a reduction of K+ after the norepinephrine injections. All physiological parameters had returned to the control values after 8~16 h followed by norepinephrine administrations. These results suggest that the stress-induced norepinephrine may cause a transient period of modulation of energy metabolism, osmoregulation, and respiratory responses, and also suppress the immune system, which in turn promote the susceptibility to P. damsela of P. monodon.
