The Research of Applying Case-Based Reasoning and Expert Systems to Crime Investigation-An Empirical Study for Crime Investigation of ROC Coast Guard / 案例推理與專家系統在犯罪偵查應用之研究-以海岸巡防犯罪偵查為例

碩士 / 中國文化大學 / 資訊管理研究所 / 94 / Artificial intelligence (AI) has been widely used in many areas. This research tries to exploit some AI techniques such as case-based reasoning (CBR) and expert systems to solve problems in coast guard crime investigation.
CBR is derived from machine learning - a subfield of AI, and can be used to de-velop a knowledge-based systems (KBS). In this research, CBR is used to develop the case analysis and judgment subsystem. In the subsystem, a case base that gathers, stores, and classifies historical cases related to coast guard crime investigation. Via the case base, the investigator can compare the current case with past cases in the case base to find out the most similar cases. Then, through analyzing these similar cases and revising the already known outcomes, the range of investigation can be signifi-cantly reduced and hence increase the investigator’s problem solving ability.
Expert systems are used to further generate crime investigation operating plan based on the analytical results of CBR. This crime investigation operating plan pro-vides necessary information and suggestions for the investigator to accomplish a spe-cific crime investigation task. This research also applies computer-assisted instruction (CAI) to build a training subsystem that provides information and theories about crime investigation to assist and educate investigators.
