碩士 / 世新大學 / 觀光學研究所(含碩專班) / 94 / The Northeastern Coast area is the best coastal fishing area in Taiwan due to the numerous reef and capes surrounding the seashore. However, the bad weather, rocky terrain and huge tides change so often and quickly that many anglers lost their lives there. The purpose of this study is to survey the relationship between anglers’ sensation seeking characteristics and their fishing site choices through Sensation Seeking Scale Form V (Zuckerman, 1977). The study site is the first offsoot of Longdong, and we separated it into four sites based on their geographic integrity.
The data was collected with questionnaires, and the survey was conducted from February to June, 2005. Two hundred and two questionnaires are available for further analysis. The Sensation Seeking Scale contains four dimensions: “Thrill and adventure seeking”, “Experience Seeking”, “Disinhibition”, and “Boredom susceptibility.” The study results indicated that anglers of the four fishing sites only significantly different in “Thrill and adventure seeking”, and anglers’ risk perception also significantly affect their fishing site choice. To reduce the fishing accidents, the study suggested resource managers should develop kinds of extreme sports or various alternative activities for the anglers to fulfill their sensation seeking characteristics and satisfy their needs besides the education and information progams.
