Exploring Smoking Cessation Behavior among Navy Personnel with the Theory of Planned Behavior and the Stages of Behavior Change Model / 以計劃行為理論及階段行為改變模式探討海軍官兵之戒菸行為

碩士 / 慈濟大學 / 公共衛生研究所 / 94 / The purpose of this study was to explore smoking cessation behavior among Navy personnel with Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior and the stages of behavior change of Prochaska’s Transtheoretical Model. The study design was a cross-sectional survey research. The participants were 271 Navy who were servicing in the east and the south of Taiwan during the period between April and December 2005 and conforming with CDC definition of current smoker or has quitted smoking less than one year. The self-administered structural questionnaire consist of seven parts: quitting attitude、subjective norm、perceived behavior control、quitting smoking intention、stage of smoking cessation、nicotine dependence and the personal characteristics. Totally, 250 valid samples(92.25%)were collected. SPSS 13.0 was used for statistics analysis. The main findings were: (1) 41.2% were in precontemplation, 38.8% were in contemplation, 7.6% were in preparation, 5.2% were in action, 7.2% were in maintenance, and different age and grade groups had significantly different distribution of stage of smoking cessation; (2) different age、grade、education and marital status groups had no significantly different in quitting smoking intention; (3) quitting attitude、subjective norm、perceived behavior control and age were significantly positive relative to quitting smoking intention, and nicotine dependence was significantly negative relative to quitting smoking intention; (4) quitting smoking intention、perceived behavior control、age and grade were significantly positive relative to stage of smoking cessation, and nicotine dependence was significantly negative relative to stage of smoking cessation; (5) quitting attitude、subjective norm、perceived behavior control and nicotine dependence could predict quitting smoking intention after controlling age and marital status; (6) quitting smoking intention、perceived behavior control and nicotine dependence were the significant predictors of stage of smoking cessation; (7) different stage of smoking cessation had significantly difference in quitting attitude、subjective norm and perceived behavior control. According to above result, we discussed and address suggestions that the practical application of tobacco control in military and researching direction in the future.
