The Study of Using Mobile Learning Device to Assist Elementary School Students to Study Aquatics at Campus’ Eco-education Garden / 行動學習輔具輔助國小學生以PBL在校園生態教材園進行水生生物學習之研究

碩士 / 臺北市立教育大學 / 科學教育研究所 / 94 / This study is based on “Campus Wireless Network at XX Elementary School Wetland Eco-education Garden Research Project” to develop teaching model of outdoor learning in order to assist students learning natural science. The purposes of this study are (1) to design the wireless technologies for mobile learning; (2) based on “Mobilized PBL” to develop the learning materials and learning activities; (3) to discover the students’ before and after difference at “the degree of comprehending the concept of aquatics”, “learning attitude”, and “interest in learning” when they use “Mobilized PBL with wireless technologies” to study aquatics.
This study adopted the quasi-experimental design method. The study objects were randomly selected from four classes of 4th grade students in an elementary school at Taipei City. Both control group and experiment group have two classes of students. The experimental teaching period was seven weeks. At the week before and after the experimental teaching period, “Aquatics Concept Comprehension” test and “Natural Science and Life Technology Learning Attitude Evaluation” survey were carried out to collect the quantitative data for statistics analysis. In addition, the qualitative data such as researcher’s observation notes, students’ documents, contents of student interviews, contents of teacher interviews, and contents of parent interviews were also used to assist the analysis.
The research results of this study are:
1. Designing wireless technology for 4th grade elementary school students’ using mobile learning infrared guiding system to learn aquatics at wetlands eco-education garden need to focus on having easy-to-use operation interface, minimizing the effort for memorizing, maximizing the effect of the frame, enabling uses to choose the learning contents based on their personal interest and level, and having real time online broadcasting for people’s non-stop learning. The website contents of wetlands eco-education garden need to emphasize on designing suitable contents for children to understand, having complete pictures of aquatics, having illustration to explain the characteristics, having short voice expositions, and having abundant information for database.
2. The characteristics of using “Mobilized PBL” to assist 4th grade elementary school students learning material and activities of aquatics are to combine concept of PBL, concept of mobile learning, mobile learning device, eco-education garden in campus, and highly interactive environment for designing PBL mobile learning materials; to change original open type PBL design to guiding type PBL design; to share the learning responsibility between teaching staffs and learners; to adopt the group discussion learning method.
3. (1) Students who use Mobilized PBL to study chapter of aquatics showed the significant difference at level of comprehension comparing to before the study. (2) Students who use Mobilized PBL to study chapter of aquatics showed the lower effect of learning compare to control group students who use normal learning method, but the difference was not significant. (3) After using Mobilized PBL to study chapter of aquatics, students showed better learning interest, motivation of discovering, belief of value, strategy of learning, and learning attitude. Among them, learning interest, motivation of discovering, strategy of learning, and learning attitude had significant difference comparing to before the study. (4) Comparing to students in control group, students who use Mobilized PBL to study chapter of aquatics have better learning interest, motivation of discovering, belief of value, strategy of learning, and learning attitude. Among them, learning interest, motivation of discovering, and learning attitude were significantly different.
