Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the interrelation between each physique quality and the sports performance, based on 72 male rowers in ten senior high and vocational schools－National Lo-Tung Senior High School, National Lo-Tung Commercial Vocational High School, Chi-Ping Senior High School, Shui Li Senior Vocational School, National Tainan Industrial Vocational High School, Nan Ying Vocational High School of Business &Technology, Tainan Municipal Tu-Cheng High School, and National Tainan Senior Marine & Fishery Vocational School. Single variable is used to analyze the differences of every physique quality; if single variable reached remarkable level, Massy method will be employed to discuss the interrelation of each physique quality. In order to understand the effects of physique qualities on sports performance, the rowers’ sports performance is taken as a dependent variable, physique qualities as independent variables, and stepwise multiple regression analysis is employed. The results of the study show that physique qualities of 72 high school male rowers reached a remarkable level (p<0.5) in terms of the strength of left-hand and right-hand grip, the strength of shoulder, the strength of back, one-minute bent-knee sit-up, standing long jump, Ergometer 500-meter running, and 3-kilometer running. Further findings from this research are that high-level rowers are better than mid-level rowers and low-level rowers. The result shows that the following three items, Ergometer 500-meter X8, 3-kilometer running X7, and left-hand grip X1, have significant effect on sports performance; the formula is as follows:
