碩士 / 臺北巿立體育學院 / 運動科學研究所 / 94 / Coming from southern mainland China, Taiwan lion dancing is regarded as a folk skill and related closely to the early Chinese immigrates’ culture. The study explores the rooting and heritage of Taiwan lion dancing along Tan-Shui River in the northern Taiwan. The research questions are as follows: 1. How was Taiwan lion dancing rooted in the northern Taiwan? 2. How did Taiwan lion dancing develop in the northern Taiwan? 3. What does Taiwan lion dancing mean to the local folk and culture? The research area covers lion dancing activities and lion-head making skills. The data collected consisted of field notes, interview transcriptions from 4 main informants, photographs, documents, video tapes, researcher’s journals, etc. The researcher uses discourse analysis and inductive way to induce study findings that include four domains: 1. lion-head token and symbol, and its making skills, art concepts and cultural exchange; 2. the significance of life passing on in the Taiwanese society; 3. the beauty of Taiwan’s religious festivals and richness of Taiwan’s traditional values; 4. the physiological and psychological information related to the Taiwan lion dancing and folk activity. The research suggests on-going studies exploring other areas such as lion dancing game analysis, skill improvement or management and marketing. In addition, using varied of research methods such as survey, studies of phenomenology or ethnography can provide Taiwanese society with multi-concepts and advanced findings concerning folk activity.
