The Heat Transfer and pressure drop Analysis of Plate Fin in Bypass flow and Various Kinds of Pin Fin in fully confined flow / 平板型鰭片在旁通流中與不同形狀針型鰭片在完全限制流中之熱流分析

碩士 / 國立雲林科技大學 / 機械工程系碩士班 / 94 / This experimental study is conducted on the influences caused by various flow types and heat sinks under forced convection flow including bypass flow and fully confined flow tests. The experimental extends the previous plate fin fully confined flow to bypass flow. Also, different shapes of pin fin are tested to verify their influences. The types of tested fins are plate fin in bypass flow and pin fin in fully confined flow which include shapes of elliptic, lancet, square and circular. The objective of this study is to investigate their heat transfer and frictional characteristics at various front wind velocity. The results of experiments indicate that the base temperature of the heat sink increases and the heat transfer coefficient decreases with wider bypass region. However, the pressure drop decreases at the same test conditions. For the comparison of geometric arrangement of test fins, the staggered configuration performs better in heat transfer than the inline configuration does, but the pressure loss of staggered fins is higher since more turbulence is induced. Further, to compare the heat transfer performance among those fins, the circular pin fin performs the best, the square pin fin is the second, next is the elliptic pin fin. For the friction loss, the streamlined elliptic pin fin has the smallest friction loss coefficient, the circular pin fin next and followed by the square pin fin. In the other word, the curve-edged fin arrangement shows a better overall performance than shape-edged fins. However, some exceptions are observed in this study. Comparing the pin fin with the plate fin, the pin fin performs better than the plate fin, however the total heat dissipation from plate fin would not be necessarily lower than that of the pin fin because the plate fin has larger heat dissipation area.
