碩士 / 朝陽科技大學 / 設計研究所 / 95 / This research is conducted to find how to apply brain waves inspection to help the basic research in education of Design. The research involves ten students in the Department of Visual Communication Design VCD to be the subjects for inspecting the brain waves and seeks for the correlation between the brain waves and the various activities they are engaged in. The data obtained were then cross analyzed in both quality aspects for the various meanings. The research proceeds through three stages. First of all, choose the subjects. Participants would be given open questionnaires about the willing, individual self-recognized traits and backgrounds. Then ten of the students, due to different temperaments, will be chosen to be the main subjects for the brain waves inspection. Secondly, carry out the brain waves inspection. Activities are categorized to ten groups, which are then divided to three sorts with orders. The first sort is to inspect basically individual normal brain waves, for basic Value. The second sort is to inspect brain waves under daily activities, for making those subjects realizing the different brain waves due to different activities they have interests in. The third sort is to inspect brain waves under “design drawing” activities. The three sorts of inspection above are totally composed of 1,649 available datas. To the last, integratedly analyze. During the inspection, those subjects will be interviewed individually, which helps discovering the possible meanings for themselves from the data in the second stage and confronting the correlation between several general meanings and each activity.
With materials from inspections and individual interviews, the research can be concluded as follows.
1. Certain colour, for example red, is considered to relax 50% of the students seeing it but not all; the color or the style which they subjectively like or dislike does not have the effect on relaxation in themselves either.
2. Most of the subjects have much more active right brain when drawing with their imagination than that when acting as normal daily routines, but is not the case when drawing with the mouse computer. However whether drawing with imagination has the effect on relaxation or not, depends on people.
3. A significant increase of θ waves occurs within most of the subjects who are watching multimedia screen, colors and modeling activities, and it is inferred that these three activities can promote subjects’ subconscious capacity. Moreover, it is found in this inspection that the teaching model, which inspires originality and thoughts from students in the department of VCD through images, like color and modeling, is positive.
4. After informed about their own brain function model, most of the subjects realize and know how to reach specific kind of brain waves they need at that time, and so that they can improve their work efficiency.
This research finds, the tendency to study across fields of brain science, Art and Design is worth exploration for design field. Perhaps various designed teaching models would be set up due to more information and discoveries in the future and provide reference to create complete programs and teaching modes of design. Accordingly, it can be successful for students to know about themselves and arouse their originality when they are designing.
