The Relationship among Specialization, Recreational Experience and Environmental Action for Scuba Diving / 水肺潛水者專業程度、遊憩體驗及環境行為之關係之探討

碩士 / 逢甲大學 / 景觀與遊憩研究所 / 95 / Recreational scuba diving is getting popular in recent years. Most divers are engaged in the activity in order to experience the unique attraction which cannot gain from other activities such as exploring ecological marine resource, experiencing natural buoyancy, controlling sub-aqueous pressure, testing specialized skill and adventure. However, diving may cause the impact of the ecological marine environment simultaneously. There is lack of relevant research which has integrated discussion with diving specialization, the recreation experience and the divers’ environmental action. The purposes of the research are: (1) Understanding the diving specialization and the diving opportunity spectrum. (2) Analyzing the factors of diving recreational experience and environmental actions. (3) Discussing the relationship between diver’s recreation experience and environmental actions. The research is based on collecting 418 questionnaires via internet and site survey and processing the data via complex samples crosstabs, factor analysis, cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA and canonical analysis.

The results are as follow: First, the recreational scuba-diving specialization can be classing as beginner, advanced and professional three levels. All levels of the divers prefer the diving location with high accessibility. The different levels of specialization have significant difference in diving expenditure. The higher specialized divers are willing to spend higher amount in the diving activity than the beginners. Moreover, the higher specialized divers, who have higher diving skill and diving knowledge, cause less environmental impact than the beginners.

Secondly, there are five factors in diving recreational experience which are enjoying marine ecology, diving specialization, de-stress/social interaction, self-learning/challenge, and adventure. Divers with higher specialized level have the stronger recreational experience. However, beginners have the stronger feelings in adventure experience than the other two groups.

Thirdly, the environmental actions include four factors, the political conservational action, the immediate persuasive action, the ecomanagement/ consumption, and contributing/rewarding. The advanced divers have higher agreement in environmental conservational actions than beginners and professionals.

Finally, the different specialization levels have variance correlation between the factors of recreational experience and environmental actions. For the beginners, the recreational experience of enjoying marine ecology, de-stress/social interaction, self-learning/challenge, and adventure have positive relationship with factors of ecomanagement/consumption, and contributing/rewarding in environmental actions. For the advanced divers, the environmental actions of the political conservational action, and the ecomanagement/consumption have positive relationship with factors of enjoying marine ecology, de-stress/social interaction, and self-learning/challenge. For the professional divers, the recreational experience of enjoying marine ecology, the performance of specialization, and de-stress/social interaction have positive relationship with factors of the political conservational actions, the immediate persuasive actions, and the ecomanagement/consumption.

The results could provide applications in management and further research. Through taking appropriate pre-departure orientation and the supervision of diving guide, the environmental impact by diving activities can be reduced and the satisfied recreation experience can be provided.
