碩士 / 明道大學 / 國學研究所 / 95 / This thesis is entitled “The Study of Lin Hai-yin’s Literary Style”. I try to arrange the different phases of Lin Hai-yin’s works. She was the writer who never stopped writing in her whole life. I also try to find out the reason why the different phases are formed and the influences they had in order to set up a status for Lin Hai-yin in the history of literature. The scholars in Taiwan and Mainland China hold a positive attitude to Lin Hai-yin’s role of the babysitter in literary circle. This thesis intends to reinterpret and research in the artistry of her works with a view to showing the high value, and furthermore to proving the reason why she is called Mr. Lin with respect.
Firstly, this thesis defines the meaning of literary style. I organize the information related to literary style from the points of view of Chinese and Western literature to construct the definition of literary style discussed in this thesis.
Secondly, I analyze her works and generalize about that to present the phases and changes of her literary style in four periods. Then, I infer that how those styles are formed and analyze the main factors effect her literary style. Those factors include times, space, interpersonal relationship and individual self. For example, May Fourth Spirit and the alternation of new and old societies are the nutrition of her thoughts. The experiences from her childhood to adulthood in Beijing and the developments in her hometown, Taiwan both shape the geographic style of her works. However, she could exceed the narrow boundaries of lands to regard the relationship between Taiwan and Mainland China with broad perspective. Therefore, I clarify the discrepancies how the two sides across the Taiwan Strait translate Lin Hai-yin’s works in the thesis. Her sympathy and character of autonomy correspond to Indian poet Tagore and May Fourth writer Ling Shu-hua. As to her hospitality and enthusiasm bring alive the net of literature with those writers in the same period. From those points mentioned above, we can understand more about the vision how Lin Hai-yin viewed this world.
Lastly, with the connections among Lin Hai-yin, her works and readers, I analyze what her literary thoughts and concerns reflect, inspire and effect. Then, I make sure her position in the history of literature and let the one who wants to know Lin Hai-yin realizes her works more easily.
