Abundance and spatial distribution of submersed macrophytes in the Kaomei Wetlands. / 高美濕地大型水生植物的豐度與空間分布

碩士 / 中興大學 / 生命科學院碩士在職專班 / 95 / The study site is located at the Kaomei wetlands wildlife conservation area of middle Taiwan. I mainly evaluated the biomass and cover of submersed macrophytes, including Bolboschoenus planieulmis, Zostera japonica, Vaucheria aversa, Ulva spp., in July, 2006 and February, 2007. Simultaneously, I also determined environmental factors of sediments and water column to realize the spatial and temporal differences of biological and environmental factors, and to discover the most influencing environmental factors for abundance of submersed macrophytes.
The results showed that salt marshes of B. planieulmis may lead to sedimentation of silt and clay, an increase in water content and organic matter of soil, and a decrease in pH value and depth of oxidation layer of soil. Z. japonica mainly occurred in the intertidal area with a large grain size, a low content of silt and clay, a low water content and organic matter of soil, alkaline soil, clear water, 30 psu of water salinity, and being away from sewage discharge. Z. japonica mainly developed the above-ground part in summer and transferred the nutrient to the below-ground part in winter. However, the areal biomass at two times did not significantly differ. V. aversa was the highest abundance of submersed macrophytes in the Kaomei Wetlands. V. aversa mainly occurred in the area with small grain size, a high content of silt and clay, high contents of water and organic matter of soil, shallow oxidation layer of soil, weak alkaline soil, and turbid water. Ulva spp. mainly occurred in the area with turbid water, weak alkaline water, water salinity >15 psu and sewage discharge. In conclusion, the driving forces in influencing abundance of submersed macrophytes in the Kaomei Wetlands were grain size of soil and nutrition concentration of water column.
