The Study of Ocean Literature in Taiwan After World War Ⅱ / 戰後台灣海洋文學研究

碩士 / 國立成功大學 / 台灣文學研究所 / 95 / In late 19th century, there is a whole new country positioning besides as an independent country and a part of Mainland China: an ocean country. It is indeed a quite different position, however it just refreshes the memory of the historical background of Taiwan in the past. The positioning of a country does not define by its geographic surrounding. The influence of our history and culture should not be ignored. After all, the concept of ocean country should be based on both the history and culture bred by the ocean. Therefore, the central concept of this research paper is how to re-adjust our attitude towards the ocean beyond the influences of self-limiting and the arrogance of humanity.
In this essay, I will start with making the comparison and the contrast the literary works of Liao hong-ji, and Syman rapongan in order to realize how their works distinguished and innovated the new reading concepts in both Ocean Literature and Taiwan Literature.By analyzing the literary techniques and its subject, we can see that the literary works in this period of time have changed from objective descriptions, feeling expression, imaginary identification on the myth into the true literature on the identification on our own motherland. It clearly shows that people try to live and construct their own culture. However, those intentions had been erased under the criticisms. Eventually, great literature with self-identification intention had become simple written forms, which is non political, and issues-centered. The literary works are not strong force to build Taiwanese culture but become consuming homesickness literature for the readers.
