碩士 / 國立中央大學 / 管理學院高階主管企管碩士班 / 95 / In recent decade, Taiwan’s companies take opportunity of China’s booming economy and invest in China’s coastal industrious area. While the majority of labor-intensive companies are simply to use the cheap labor for assembly line, there are a few high-tech companies try use the talents of Chinese engineers. Taiwan’s high tech companies usually find it difficult to keep loyalty of these highly educated engineers. On the surface, Taiwan and China shares the same cultural heritage. However, because of recent historical divergence, the mentality of the high-tech employees between China and Taiwan might be different.
One of the important managerial questions is “Are their capabilities of enduring hardship different?” Adversity Quotient (AQ) is a measurement derived from cognitive psychology that measure the mental capacity of a man to endure hardship and overcome obstacles. This thesis analyzed the different AQ between the engineers in China and Taiwan. Furthermore, this thesis studied the differences of job satisfaction and Life Satisfaction between these two groups. Electronic engineers of a Taiwan’s IC design company located in Taiwan’s Hsinchu Science Park and in China’s Shenzhen are invited to fill in the questionnaires. Findings and implications are discussed.
