碩士 / 國立彰化師範大學 / 企業管理學系 / 95 / Because the globalization and internationalization are the inevitable trends for business operations, many enterprises actively engage in overseas investment and launch the global arrangements in recent years.
Although family businesses account for a large proportion in Taiwan, past studies seldom mentioned the importance of family businesses. In this study, we take Taiwanese family businesses into consideration to examine their overseas’ investing behavior. For multinational enterprises making investment in overseas market, the host country is an important issue. In order to cope with the uncertain and various environments, multinational enterprises must pay more attention to the overseas subsidiary. This research, based on the RBVs, Institutional theory, and relationship network, investigates the relationship of parent company’s abilities, subsidiary’s attractions and the foreign environments with family businesses. In addition, we also explore which factors influence subsidiary’s decision autonomy.
At first, the result shows that parent company’s characteristics, including family holding, the formal degree and foreign experiences, have influence on subsidiary’s autonomy. Beside, we also find that foreign subsidiary’s characteristics, including the operation year and the value chain, have positive impact on subsidiary’s autonomy. Finally, it is shown that host country environmental characteristics, such as the relationship with partnership, the relationship with the government, and the industry’s environment, are the important factors on subsidiary’s autonomy.
