The Impact of Foreign Direct Investment on Regional Economic Development in China: Explore the Difference between the Coast and Interior / 外商直接投資對中國大陸區域經濟發展之影響:沿海與內陸差異探索

碩士 / 國立東華大學 / 公共行政研究所 / 95 / The purpose of the present thesis is to explore the foreign direct investment to promote China's economic development. Moreover, whether the economic development brought by the foreign direct investment has any regional difference or not, and to explore foreign direct investment’s substantive influence on China regional economic development. Also, this thesis would explore the relation between foreign direct investment and the gradient open policy in china. In the forth chapter, the article divides China into eastern coastal area, middle interior, and western interior and examines the relation between the regional economic development and the foreign direct investment by OLS regression.

The result shows that the influence brought by foreign direct investment on the coastal area and the interior area is obvious, in other words, foreign direct investment undoubtedly improve the regional economy in China. However, by dividing the interior area into middle part and western part, the foreign direct investment in western part causes less improvement on regional economic development. Then, by comparing the coastal area with the interior area, the result shows that the more foreign direct investment, the better regional economic development is.
