A Study on the Taboo Words of Taiwanese Hailu Hakka Dialect / 台灣海陸客話禁忌語的研究

Since human being has history, “language” is playing the role in communicating and coordinating, as well as the Cultural Heritage all the time. In the early days, not only in virtue of the lacking knowledge, but also the education was not popularized, thus people felt mystically about “language”. Under such psychological effect, people were not only started to worship the spiritual objects, but also to worship languages; in addition, as a result in worshiping languages, the taboo words have derived from the taboos or bans. The so-called “Taboo words” are those words or phrases that people afraid, unwilling and unwanted to speak due to certain reasons. Regardless of which race or language group/family they are, there were different taboo words that generated by the difference among their different customs and cultures. This research is studied the origin for the taboo words of Taiwanese Hailu Hakka dialect; the internal psychological factors and the external social culture and customary morality that generated by the taboo words; and further to discuss the Pragmatics for the taboo words of Hailu Hakka dialect from the point of view of the customary language.

This research is divided into 7 chapters totally:
Chapter One is the Preface which expounded the motive and purpose, content, methodology, object, scope and limitation of this research, as well as summarized the literature review.
Chapter Two is the formation for the taboo words of Hailu Hakka dialect. This chapter is subdivided into 3 sections; that Section 1 introduced the origin and definition of the word “Taboo”; Section 2 introduced the definition and relationship between the taboo words and behaviors; and Section 3 introduced the relationship between the taboo words and linguistic culture.
Chapter Three is the category for the taboo words of Hailu Hakka dialect. This chapter is subdivided into 3 sections; that Section 1 indicated the taboo words that related to the “Sexual matters”; Section 2 indicated the taboo words that related to the “Excretion”; and Section 3 indicated the taboo words that related to the “Life and Etiquette”.
Chapter Four is the content for the taboo words of Hailu Hakka dialect. This chapter is subdivided into 6 sections with aiming at the content for the taboo words of Hailu Hakka dialect, and they are: taboos words that related to “Female”, “Numbers”, “Occupations”, “Animals”, “Titles” and “Family Names”.
Chapter Five is viewed the taboo words of Hailu Hakka dialect from the phonologic structure. This chapter is conducted the further analysis of aiming at the Consonants, Vowels and Tones for the taboo words of Hailu Hakka dialect in order to discuss the correlation between the homonymic phenomenon and taboo words.
Chapter Six is the common motive for the taboo words of Hailu Hakka dialect. This chapter is expounded the common motive that generated from the taboo words of Hailu Hakka dialect which are: 1. “Ward off the unfortunate; Tend to the Auspiciousness”, 2. “Avoid the vulgarization; Look for the refinement”; 3. “Avoid violating the authority”, and 4. “Avoid talking about people’s weak points”.
Chapter Seven is the conclusion. It is mainly concluded the comprehensive arrangement and generalization of the analyzed results that conducted by this research.
