碩士 / 高雄餐旅學院 / 旅遊管理研究所 / 95 / In this research, we employed a “Rasch model” to overcome the limitations of traditional non-additive ordinal scales. Based on the model, we can transform “ordinal scales” into “interval scales”. The targeted sample of this research was a group of people who have ever planned their own individual trips in recent 3 years. We assessed travelers’ abilities regarding the difficulties in oversea trips. In addition, this study used t-test to examine the differences in the perceived constraints between high frequency travelers and low frequency travelers; and the perceived constraints between short-distance and long-distance travelers and low frequency travelers.
Results of the study revealed that the individual travelers had difficulties in “fluently communicating with local people”. It showed that the travelers’ language capacities are yet to be improved. Additionally, one of the most significant differences between high frequency travelers and low frequency travelers is about the ease of flights booking. “I know the travel value of destinations” and “I think that cost cheap on the scenic spots or facilities of the destination” also showed significant differences between short-distance and long-distance travelers and low frequency travelers.
According to research findings, this study can advance the relative suggestions about industry and theory. It contributed consultation to the tourism companies, government, academia and research in planning the operational policies, service strategies and follow-up research theme correspondingly.
