The Construction of Secondhand Ship Price Index by Applying the Hedonic Price Theory / 特徵價格理論應用到二手船市場價格指數之建構

碩士 / 國立高雄第一科技大學 / 財務管理所 / 95 / In order to avoid the prices of the ships to be affected by the size of ships, the ship tonnages and ship types are being used to categorize and then formulate into price index of ship. However, this approach of formulating price index is still not capable of completely separating the influence of the age and type of ship. Most importantly, a perfect ship price index is expected to differentiate the price change that is derived from the demand and supply of the market and/or the attributes embodies in a ship. Due to the property of heterogeneity of ship, this study has applied the Hedonic regression method to reveal the impact of ship attributes on constructing the so-called Hedonic ship price index and the pure price index, reflecting the influence of market competition only. The empirical study shows that the pure price index with allowing for the property of heterogeneity of ship does have presented more stable variations than the price index constructed by the traditionally weighted average. This result also implies that the current existing ship price has been implanted with a possibility of over-shooting reaction for a market shock. In addition, this study also uncovers that the Hedonic ship price index is a more reliable tool for the market participants to predict the fluctuations of shipping market in the future. With reference to age index which is another price index created in the study. Furthermore, it also demonstrates that the price variations during the past several years are mainly caused by the variations of market, but not by the variations of cost.
