Optimizing Re-marshalling Operation in Export Container Terminals / 出口貨櫃碼頭整櫃作業最佳化

碩士 / 國立高雄第一科技大學 / 運籌管理所 / 95 / Berthing time is one of the performance measures for evaluating the efficiency of container terminals. Container loading and unloading time takes up a large portion of the berthing time of a containership. To reduce the container loading time, the storage locations of containers in the yard must be arranged in a way so that export containers can be loaded efficiently onto a containership.
In this study, we investigated the container re-marshalling problem for a single containership. Given an initial layout of a container yard, the container re-marshalling problem solves for a final layout and a working sequence to convert the initial layout of the yard to the final layout in a most cost effective way.
We solve the container re-marshalling problem using a two-stage approach. Given an initial layout of a container yard, the first stage solves an assignment problem to obtain the best final layout of the container yard. In the second stage, we solve a traveling sales problem with precedence constraints (TSPPC) to determine the most cost effective sequence of container movement to convert the initial layout to the final layout desired. The TSPPC is modeled as a multi-commodity network flow problem.
For small problem instances, both the assignment problem in the first stage and the TSPPC in the second stage can be solved by AMPL/CPLEX effectively. However, in practice, the TSPPC is too difficult to be solved within a reasonable time. Therefore, for large problem instance, we solve the TSPPC in the second stage by genetic algorithm using EVOLVER. We test our solution approach on a real-world case with about 400 containers. Computational study shows that our approach is capable of obtaining satisfactory results for the TSPPC within one minute.
