碩士 / 國立高雄第一科技大學 / 運籌管理所 / 95 / Airline cabin crew rostering is an important part of airline operations and an interesting operations research application. It is an important and difficult function that most airlines undertake on a routine basis as there are various hard rules and soft rules, as well as management policies, involved in the decision process. To shorten planning cycle and increase rostering flexibility, most airlines in Taiwan had adopted computer-based rostering system to optimize the rostering and improve operational efficiency.
Most previous studies on airline rostering problem focused on the development of mathematical models and solution methods for the crew rostering problem. It is hard to find surveys focused on identifying factors affecting the successful adoption of computer-based cabin crew rostering system.
The contribution of this paper is to draw attention from researchers to the adoption of computer-based cabin crew rostering system through case studies of airlines in Taiwan. We interviewed staffs of three Taiwanese airlines that are in chage of cabin crew rostering. Results indicate that well-defined requirements, user interface and system maintenance have significant effect on the successful implementation of cabin crew rostering system.
