The effects of sodium alginate on non-specific immune responses of grouper Epinephelus malabaricus and its resistance to pathogen / 藻酸鈉對瑪拉巴石斑魚非特異性免疫反應及其抗病能力之影響

碩士 / 國立屏東科技大學 / 水產養殖系所 / 95 / This study was aimed at evaluating the effect of dietary supplement of sodium alginate on: (1) the growth, (2) the non-specific immune responses, and (3) the resistance of Epinephelus malabaricus to bacterial and virus infection. In the growth trial, E. malabaricus was fed with the diets containing different concentration (0, 1000, 2000 mg kg-1) of sodium alginate for 8 weeks. The results showed that the growth rate in those fish fed with the diet containing sodium alginate at the concentration of 1000 mg kg-1 was significant higher than that of the fish fed with the control diet after 6 weeks; moreover, the same phenomenon was observed at the 8th week in those fish fed with either 1000 or 2000 mg kg-1 sodium alginate supplemented diet. Furthermore, at the 6th and 8th week, the feed efficiency of fish fed with the diets containing sodium alginate was significant higher than that of the control group. The results of immune responses , shows that ACH50 in the sodium alginate treatments increased significantly after feeding for 6 and 9 days; lysozyme activity, respiratoy burst, superoxide dimutase activity, and phagocytic activity increased significantly after 12 days of dietary administration of sodium alginate. The challenge tests were conducted afetr feeding the diets containing sodium alginate for 12 days. The pathogens were injected at 106 cfu fish-1 (Streptococcus sp) and 106 TCID50 fish-1 (iridovirus). In Streptococcus challenged test, the survival rate of fish fed with either 1000 or 2000 mg kg-1 sodium alginate supplement diet was significant higher than that of the control group after 96th hours; in the iridovirus challenged test, the survival rate of fish fed with the diet containing sodium alginate at levels of 1000 and 2000 mg kg-1 was significant higher than that of the control group at the 72nd hour.
