Operational and Business Modeling of Global Logistics Service Providers - The Case of Automobile and Machinery Manufacturing Industries / 全球運籌服務之模式研究-以汽車產業以及精密機械產業應用為例

碩士 / 國立清華大學 / 工業工程與工程管理學系 / 95 / Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Taiwan are undergoing transformation after the accession of the majority of Asian economics to the World Trade Organization (WTO). An important issue is how these SMEs will adjust to the new rules of global business. In order to keep their business thriving, these SMEs will need more effective and efficient business models. Moreover, SMEs will also need to apply new logistics models to cooperate with larger and global enterprises. The machinery manufacturing industry in Taiwan consists of thousands of globally competitive SMEs. The Taiwan Automobile industry is similar but also has a few very large and global enterprises. Both the machinery and the automobile industry are changing to better adapt to the global supply chain. The changes include the adaptation of strategies to improve their business and logistics business process models.
This thesis provides a two part analysis of these industries strategic adaptation. First, the business and logistics models of the industries are conducted by modeling business processes using Income 4 Petri-Net diagrams. The diagrams provide a concise map of the business and logistics process. For the second part analysis, after considering industry properties and globalization trends we apply logistics technology and new ideas to improve the business models and derive new logistics strategies. The proposed models satisfy the goal of increasing logistics efficiency, decreasing costs, shortening lead times, and integrating processes into the global supply chain.
