碩士 / 國立臺南大學 / 材料科學系 / 95 / Scaevola hainanensis is distributed in Indochina and the Hainan Island, China. It is also found in the southwestern coast of Taiwan. In Taiwan, S. hainanensis only distributed in an area about 1 ha in the Jiangjun, Tainan County, is an endangered species now . The aim of this study was to examine the reproductive characters of S. hainanensis, and to investigate the vegetation composition. The results showed S. hainanensis could produce blossom and fruit throughout the year, but flowers dominated from May to June and fruits dominated from June to July. It took about two months from bud to mature fruit which persist in flower branch instead of drop out of the branch. Twenty-eight species of vascular plants were recorded in Jiangjun sampling plot. Among them, Scaevola hainanensis and Pluchea pteropoda were classified as rare plant. Sporobolus virginicus, Ipomoea pes-caprae ssp. brasiliensis and Imperata cylindrica var. major were the dominant species of the vegetation. Scaevola hainanensis mainly distributed from 0.4 to 0.8 m and competed with other species. Scaevola hainanensis will disappear from Taiwan if its habitat is destroyed. Therefore, ex situ strategies were recommended for effective conservation for this species.
