碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 航運管理學系 / 95 / Facing quick change in the external environment, it is necessary for the Shipping and Transportation Management Department (STM Department), National Taiwan Ocean University, to constantly review and modify its curricula in order to cope with the change of employment market. The contents of STM curricula aim to provide management, as well as professional shipping knowledge in order to create its value. According to the previous experiences, the key element for a successful shipping company is to have the specialized and educated people who can serve the industry. Nevertheless, the required abilities of people specialized in shipping are complicated. It comprehends not only college education but also in service training and experience. Shipping is a globalizing and changing industry; it is of a great urgency that education needs to catch up with reformations of shipping industry. Thus, this thesis bases on questionnaire and seminar to analyze opinions from the STM graduates and shipping circles.
This study aims to review the suitability of the current curricula of the STM Department. It issues questionnaires to those STM graduates, their employers, etc. and analyzes the relationship between the contents of STM curricula and the ability required by the employment market. This study also investigates the employment situation of the STM graduates. In addition to questionnaire methodology, this study also holds a seminar in order to explore the opinions from those high level officers in Taiwan’s shipping industry, namely liner shipping, tramp shipping, freight forwarding, port operation. This seminar provides deep thinking for the current problems and future development while designing the STM curricula. The goal of this thesis is to provide reference to the STM Department when it is endeavoring to upgrade its teaching quality and provide qualifies graduates to shipping industry. This thesis also draws up curriculum proposal for the STM Department according to the results of its research finding.
