Study on the Recreation Behaviors and Recreation Economic Benefits at Dongshih Fisherman’s Wharf / 東石漁人碼頭遊憩行為與遊憩經濟效益之研究

This study uses questionnaire and field survey methods to investigate the visiting behaviour of tourists at the Dongshih Fisherman's Wharf. In addition, the study attempts to quantify the recreation economic benefits accrued from the tourism using the travel cost method (TCM) and contingent valuation method (CVM). The results are summarized as follows:
1. The first and foremost motivation for visiting the wharf is “It can offer a vast , convenient parking place”. The second most common motivation is “It can offer a chance to reunite with family and to ehance one another’s relationship ”. The first two satisfactory level is the same as motivation.
2. In terms of willing to pay (WTP), the tourist’s average frequency of tourists’ visit to the Dongshih Fisherman's Wharf is 3.80 times per year. The frequency of male tourists’ visit is 3.82 times per annum, which is higher than female tourists’ 3.77 times. The tourist’s average WTP is NT$ 667.61 per year per person.The male interviewees’ average WTP is NT$ 632.97 per year per person which is higher than female interviewees’ average, NT$702.25. It suggests that males are prepared to pay more money for the leisure activity.
3. In terms of willing to accept (WTA), the tourists’ average WTA is NT$ 3,205.26 per year per person. The male interviewee’s average WTP is NT$ 3203.30 per year per person which is lower than the female interviewee’s average, NT$ 3,207.21. It suggests that females pay more attention to the right to do the leisure activity.

4. The results of this analysis show that travel benefit based upon TCM is NT$ 1,698.61 per year per person; and that the travel benefit based on VCM is NT$ 662.38 per year per person. There are estimated 361,996 people persons traveling to the Dongshih Fisherman's Wharf in 2006, the recreation economic benefits is NT$ 614,890,000 calculated from TCM, and NT$ 239,778,900 calculated from VCM. In summary, there is significant recreation economic benefits derived from the multiple use of the Dongshih Fisherman's Wharf.
